{"id":319,"date":"2026-10-07T15:39:33","date_gmt":"2026-10-07T15:39:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kwekwebiz.com\/?p=319"},"modified":"2026-10-13T21:59:55","modified_gmt":"2026-10-13T21:59:55","slug":"tsingshans-zimbabwe-steel-unit-partners-with-state-rail-firm-to-boost-haulage-capacity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kwekwebiz.com\/index.php\/2026\/10\/07\/tsingshans-zimbabwe-steel-unit-partners-with-state-rail-firm-to-boost-haulage-capacity\/","title":{"rendered":"Tsingshan&#8217;s Zimbabwe steel unit partners with state rail firm to boost haulage capacity"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">HARARE, Oct 5 (Reuters) &#8211; The Zimbabwean steelmaking unit of Chinese metals giant Tsingshan Holding Group on Monday signed a partnership deal with the \u200bNational Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) to expand capacity for coal \u200cand steel haulage, the state logistics company announced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tsingshan&#8217;s Dinson Steel Company, whose $1 billion steel plant in central Zimbabwe started production <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/commodities\/chinas-tsingshan-1-bln-steel-plant-zimbabwe-starts-production-2024-06-20\/\">in 2024<\/a>, will haul 1.1 million \u200bmetric tons of coal from Hwange, a distance of \u200babout 600 km (373 miles).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The rail upgrade deal also includes \u2060the transportation of 600,000 tons of steel products from the Dinson \u200bplant to various markets in Zimbabwe and the region, the NRZ \u200bsaid in a statement.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Grand Railway Solutions, a subsidiary of the Dinson group, will provide locomotives, wagons and fuel, with the NRZ contributing infrastructure and train \u200bcrews, the state rail firm said.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The deal also includes the \u200bupgrade of the 80-km track between Gweru and Mvuma, at a cost of \u200cabout $27 \u2060million, followed by the construction of a 50-km track linking Mvuma to the steel plant under a build-operate-transfer model.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Grand Railway Services will fund the construction of the track, transfer it to the NRZ \u200band recover its \u200bcosts through \u2060offsets.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8220;This deal is set to significantly increase annual tonnage for NRZ, while at the same time transferring \u200bthe bulk of coal traffic from Hwange from \u200broad \u2060to rail,&#8221; NRZ said.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>NRZ has struggled for years due to under-investment by the government and has stepped up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/africa\/zimbabwe-seeks-115-million-afreximbank-loan-state-rail-operator-2026-09-17\/\">collaborations<\/a> with private logistics firms and \u2060its \u200bbulk commodity clients to boost freight volumes, \u200bwhich collapsed from a peak of 12 million tons in the 1990s, to 2 \u200bmillion tons in 2025.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/africa\/tsingshans-zimbabwe-steel-unit-partners-with-state-rail-firm-boost-haulage-2026-10-05\/\">Reuters<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>HARARE, Oct 5 (Reuters) &#8211; The Zimbabwean steelmaking unit of Chinese metals giant Tsingshan Holding Group on Monday signed a partnership deal with the \u200bNational Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) to expand capacity for coal \u200cand steel haulage, the state logistics company announced.
